Lee Chapel Desecrated

It is with great grief and sadness in my heart that I write this. The Lee Chapel at Washington And Lee University, has remained true to its identity as til of late. However, most recently, The Confederate battle flags which hung (not predominantly I might add), in the back the chapel, have been abruptly removed. They were replica flags, but have been in tact there for many years. Because of a few students who protested (now graduating and moving on from the college), the flags were removed without question from Faculty and Staff. The Sons of Confederate Veterans held a protest this past weekend. The cowardly staff of Washington and Lee made a Facebook post that would close their chapel in that light- afraid of the actions to be taken from the protestors. This, of course, had nothing to do with the Sons of Confederate Veterans. As far as many know, no violent threats were made. All correspondence to the faculty and staff was about the dismay of many that the battle flags were removed the chapel.

This is one slap in the face too many for the town of Lexington, and the whole South in general. Another place where political correctness has run amok. Where honorable things are outlawed. Not one Confederate Flag flew over any slave ship. And if this can happen to the Cross of St Andrew, we can imagine that the American Flag will be next. Robert E. Lee was man of honour and integrity. Those flags were there for a purpose. They had no right to remove them for any reason.. Those that protested their presence were in a minority. Most people had no issue with them. What is the point of removing them? Its just to make some sort of political agenda shift. There is even talk of removing Robert E. Lee's name from Washington and Lee college altogether, because he owned slaves. Do people forget that George Washington  also owned slaves? And so if we remove the name Washington from the College- what do we call it next? The problem is no historical figure is perfect. But those flags had their place there at the chapel, and there they should remain

Please call or write to Washington and Lee College, and voice your concern about the removal of the Battle Flags in Lee Chapel.
